Precocious = Pre + cocious (concious)
predicting before concious is premature

meaning - showing unusually early mental development or achievement

Atonement

Atonement - A (anti) + tonement (torment)

anti-torment means act of atoning for sins i.e compensation for a wrong

meaning - to do something that shows that you are sorry for something bad that you did

Sordid

Sordid = Sor (sorry) + did (i did that)
I am sorry for doing 'sordid' campaign against you.

meaning - dirty and unpleasant

Garrulous

Garrulous = Garr (girls) + u + lous (hass)
girls laugh (and talk) more than boys

meaning - having a habit of talking a lot, esp. unwanted things

pic - girls become garrulous in kitty parties

Tyro

tyro = ty (try) + ro (karo)

tyro...sounds like try karo....a beginner TRYing to establish his buisness

meaning - a person who is new to an activity, novice

synonyms - newwings

connotation - positive, attitude

pic - child trying to stand on his feet is a tyro

Tacit

tacit = take + it

imagine you are giving permission to someone to take something from your room...but you didn't say it verbally but via your actions.

meaning - understood without being expressed directly, silent consent

pic - traffic guy directions are understood in tacit way

Abate

abate = ab + ate
When you eat anything, you reduce it's quantity.

meaning - to become less strong (both in quantity and quality)

pic - rhyming with rebate (lesser amount)

Flippant

Flippant = Flip + pant (panic)
During exam time if you flip through the pages of the book rather than reading them with concentration, then you LACK PROPER SERIOUSNESS.

meaning - not serious about a serious subject, in an attempt to be amusing or to appear clever

pic - a lady boss in non-serious/non-caring (flippant) attitude

Cogent

cogent = co (corporate) + gent (agents/salesman)
cooperative agents make congent suggestions

meaning - describes an argument or reason, etc. that is clearly expressed and persuasive

pic - obama makes 'cogent' arguments

Argot

argot = ar (our) + got (goat)
pic - when a goat says "meh...mheh...meh..." we cannot understand its lingo - only other goats can understand it. So, argot is a lingo only small group of people (here goats) can understand.

meaning - words and expressions which are used by small groups of people and which are not easily understood by other people.

You live on lavish dreams and you sleep through reality. Then you open yourself to the real world and create a product in the form of a ‘yawn’ (that too a big one).
And obviously, you don’t succeed.

One fine day, my English teacher at Venky (now vice-principal) addressed the class with some beautiful lines. One of them really touched my soul:
“To be successful, you got have three things – luck, talent and hard-work”

Luck is a dependency which God has (so may God bless you). Also if you consider yourself smart, you will have negative of that. Why? That will be taken later in a different post. Be foolish and be merry.
Talent is something which everybody has. And if you don’t have it, genius avatars like Google are there to nurture you.
Hard Work is inversely proportional to your laziness.

We don’t have luck, we may have talent but we will do hard work. Even we hope so.
So, one fine day after CAT 2008, we opened are eyes with a mission (i.e. to crack CAT 2009). Our dedicated mission arose from our abysmal performance in ‘va’ section of CAT 2008 (though many of us have lesser issues in quant and di).
This blog is dedicated for vocab learning through some easy meanings. We intend to make a picture for every word because we believe one picture is worth a thousand words.
